Enjoy ! Even if you arent a radial nut. Lets go flying !! http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/riskingitall/2011/05/201151112305049621.html Dick
Fascinating documentary. A different kind of bush flying, to be sure, but alot is surprisingly the same. Thanks for sharing, that one's a must see IMHO.
Thanks Dick for sharing this incredible video! We can realize our "luck" to live in our "civilized" countries... Damn, seems each flight is the last one... Cheers Phil
After watching this video I wanted to know more about the DC3 and found the MAAM site and finally bought their DC3. Nice aircraft, like the start procedure and the engine noise! I'm just ready to use it in Misty environment and try some landing around there on some tricky airstrips to test the beast!
Phil, if you have problems with the yoke blocking your view in the VC mode there is a fix for it. My #1 plane to fly is the DC3, it is addictive. I believe the MAAM is by far the most realistic flight characteristics. Looking forward to your flights in a Gooney Bird.
Thanks Dick, in fact its true the yoke hide most of useful gauges like vertical speed and others things, I got several models from MAAM (C47, dakota, DC3) and all don't have the same VC switches, (!) : on C47 you can almost start the engines on VC view then its impossible with DC3... I like very much this plane and understand well why we can fall in love with this bird!!!! Easy landing at 85 kts stabilized with flaps 4, 2000 RPM and reduce completely on threshold (following advices from the video . I like the slow flight, quiet and with no surprise, a good old plane seems perfect for short back country strips. Yes, OK for the yoke fix. Hope to see you somewhere on line in american skies with this old lady!
DCMAAM10.ZIP Get this puppy at www.flightsim.com Sometimes that doesnt totally remove the yoke so after you do the Zip file then do this. This info is from DC3 Airways, lots of info & how I really learned to fly a DC3. Maam DC3 passenger ( will work for C47 also) In the Passenger version is the folder model.ual_m and below the folders a file named aircraft.cfg. Open the folder model.ual_m. There is a file Model.cfg Open Model.cfg. Edit add -y [models] normal=dc3_ual_medium-y save and close the folder. Open aircraft.cfg Edit add _m Model=UAL_m save and close. The yoke is gone. Yes ! thats what I fly.. Had to give up fs9 because there are too many sceneries and planes created for FSX. When MAC cranks back up again my suggestion would be to update our old DC3 to a MAAM repaint, then it can be flown fs9 or fsx. We also would bring more pilots in who enjoy flying the DC3 in a Bush enviorment in a realistic flying DC3.
Good idea! Lots of fun in sight! I fly also FSX and for now I'm trying to fly the same flights from the vid in Colombia. So exciting to discover in the middle of Amazonian jungle these small airstrips. Some are really tricky. Would be nice a Mac livery for DC3 too! Thx for the picture...
Looks like MAAM sim finally has electronic delivery options. I wanted to get their DC3 a long time ago but all they had was CD delivery (no thanks). I have the univer dc2 which is nice, but no dc3. Guess I'll have to break down and finally get the MAAM DC3 now that they've removed my one complaint. Would be good to get her in our "screaming eagle" livery as well.
